This beachfront community was home to a lighthouse on the Hillsboro Inlet. Its citizens feared being annexed by nearby Pompano Beach, so they decided to form their own city. Eventually, the community incorporated and became the 18th municipality in Broward County. In 1959, Gulf Stream erected a city hall and hired its own fire chief. This region was once a winter resort for the wealthy, but now, it is a residential neighborhood. There are plenty of shopping options for the discriminating buyer.
